The Innovation & Technology Commission will hold InnoCarnival 2024 from October 26 to November 3 to showcase local innovation and technology (I&T) achievements. A diverse line-up of about 150 workshops and webinars across various subjects will also be available during the carnival.
Themed âLetâs Sail with Innovation & Technologyâ, the event will be held at the Science Park to promote I&T culture. It is also receiving support from over 75 organisations, including local universities, research and development centres, as well as government departments.
Speaking at the media preview today, Commissioner for Innovation & Technology Ivan Lee said he believes that the carnival is an annual flagship event which could foster the popularity of science culture, nurture young peopleâs interest in I&T, and attract more I&T talent in the long run.
The media preview presented the research and development projects of several participating teams. One of the exhibits, âFlexible Exoskeleton for Load Transportationâ, developed by the Chinese University, provides personalised assistance to the wearer when moving heavy objects, in order to reduce back strain and muscle activity, minimising the risk of lower back pain while maximising comfort and safety.
Meanwhile, the âDye Removal from Denim Textile Wastewater by a Combinative Adsorption & Regeneration Systemâ developed by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles & Apparel boasts an environmental-friendly and cost-effective indigo dye treatment method using alumina-based adsorbents to remove indigo dye from textile wastewater.
Furthermore, Carmel Divine Grace Foundation Secondary School introduced âElderDefenderâ, an anti-phone scam invention for seniors. Equipped with speech recognition technology, the device makes use of artificial intelligence and big data technology to scan phone messages and issue visual alerts in a bid to reduce phone scams.
Separately, prototypes of some of the winning I&T solutions of the Second City I&T Grand Challenge will be displayed for trial at InnoCarnival 2024, the commission added.
InnoCarnival 2024 is one of the highlight events in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Peopleâs Republic of China. While its activities are free of charge, some of them require pre-registration.
