On the second day of a visit to Paris, France, Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung yesterday met representatives of the creative and design industries.

In the morning, Mr Yeung discussed opportunities for stronger collaboration between Hong Kong and Paris in the creative and design industries with Philippe Delhomme, President-Executive of SAFI, the parent company of Maison&Objet.

He also met Partnerships & Special Events Manager of Maison&Objet and Paris Design Week Audrey Joly.

Mr Yeung explained that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has clear policies on developing the cultural and creative industries to support Hong Kong as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange under the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

He expressed hope that Hong Kong and Paris can establish close co-operation, including through setting up an exchange platform for designers on both sides.

The culture chief later officiated at the opening ceremony of Hong Kong Design On Stage.

In opening remarks, he outlined that the event showcases innovative ideas from 10 Hong Kong designers under the theme “Improved Urban Lifestyle - Conscious Design”. The exhibition will be staged in Hong Kong this December, giving the designers involved the chance to gain more exposure.

At noon, Mr Yeung witnessed the signing of a memorandum between the Assistant Commissioner for Cultural & Creative Industries Lowell Cho and Mr Delhomme to establish long term co-operation with Hong Kong in the creative and design industries.

The culture chief then met Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode Executive President Pascal Morand to learn more about the development of the fashion industry in France.

Mr Yeung also briefed him on Hong Kong Fashion Design Week and those present to attend the event.

He also introduced Mr Morand to Hong Kong's recent development as a mega events capital. Recognising France's long history and high reputation as a fashion powerhouse, representatives from the two sides discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in organising mega events.

On visiting Paris Design Week, Mr Yeung learned about how the annual event creates a platform for French and emerging international designers to showcase their talent.
